On October 9-10, 2025, the EADM and IAREP co-sponsored two-day Workshop on the Psychological and Economic Perspectives of Economic Inequality was hosted by the University of Amsterdam and Economic Inequality Network.
The workshop included two keynotes, 15 submitted talks, and over 40 attendees. The interdisciplinary group included researchers from Psychology, Economics, Business & Management, and Law. The topics spanned different aspects of inequality, from fairness and support for redistribution to causes and consequences of inequality and status hierarchies, and diverse methodological approaches including experimental lab studies, large-scale cross-cultural studies, meta-studies, and analyses of large datasets. Keynote Ingvild Almås (University of Zurich) presented a cross-cultural study on inequality and fairness preferences. Keynote Barnabás Szászi (Corvinus University of Budapest & Eotvos Lorand University) presented on improving the robustness and generalizability in inequality research. The talks promoted engaging discussions of important next steps for the field. The workshop also fostered new connections, and we received enthusiastic interest in keeping contact between participants and support for future events to continue sharing research on the topic of inequality. Many participants expressed appreciation for the chance to discuss the topic of inequality with so many other experts, while at the same time engaging with interdisciplinary perspectives. Thanks to the support of EADM and IAREP, participants were able to attend the workshop for free, with funding covering lunches and coffee breaks during the workshop and keynote travel.
