Code of conduct

The European Association for Decision Making (EADM) is committed to diversity, equity, the professional exchange of ideas, and respectful treatment of all members. We will not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any type, including that based on gender, gender identity, gender expression, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, citizenship status, age, sexual orientation, disability, or their intersection.

This Code of Conduct sets forth our commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment at EADM-sponsored events (including all scientific meetings, summer schools, and symposia). All members of EADM are expected to:

  • Engage in professional and constructive communication both in-person and online
  • Respond to dissent and disagreement with courtesy and civility, remaining open to alternative points of view
  • Be proactive to helping to mitigate or avoid discrimination, harassment or harm to other EADM members, including but not limited to reporting such behavior or alerting security personnel if someone may be in imminent harm

During EADM-sponsored events, members are reminded that they are prohibited from:

  • Intimidating, harassing, abusing, demeaning, or bullying speech or actions
  • Persistent and unwelcome solicitation of emotional or physical intimacy, including but not limited to that which is accompanied by real or implied threat of personal harm
  • Physical assault, including unwelcome touching or groping
  • Retaliation against an individual for reporting behavior that contravenes EADM’s Code of

Conduct

EADM encourages reporting of all perceived (and actual) incidents of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, or other prohibited behaviors occurring in conjunction with EADM-sponsored events
Each EADM-sponsored event will have a personal consultant appointed by the event organizer whose role will be to treat all cases of code of conduct violations or concerns regarding harassment absolutely confidentially. The name of the personal consultant will be available in the event program. Concerns can also be directed towards the EADM’s Executive Committee (whose names appear in https://eadm.eu/executive-board/).

Note that reports can be made anonymously. If there is immediate danger, individuals should contact local emergency services.

Consequences of Prohibited Behavior

Violation of this Code of Conduct is considered by EADM to be a serious form of professional misconduct. The consequences for violations will be determined by factors including the immediacy of the threat to attendees, the severity and frequency of the violation, whether the individual has been found to have past violations, and the status of the individual (with those in position of authority and leadership held to the highest standards of behavior).

Joining an EADM event means accepting this code of conduct, with the possible consequences of violating it. The possible disciplinary actions for the code violation include but are not limited to a verbal warning, removal from an event without refund, restriction on attending future events, removal from EADM membership, and forfeiture of previous awards or honors. EADM reserves the right, in consultation with the complainant, to take other measures EADM deems appropriate with respect to the conference and/ or its journals (e.g., reporting to the Department Chair, Dean, etc.)
